Event Photography

“Event” photography is taking photos of various types of events and activities to “document” the proceedings. The photos are typically of the candid or spontaneous type, instead of posed or pre-planned. Our photographic style is roving photojournalistic (aka documentary) rather than traditional posed shots using “studio” lighting.

Here are some samples of our event photography.

Because “Event” photography by its nature is taken out side of a photographic studio, it is often impossible to produce flawless, well-lit, blur-free photos. This is due to the inherent limitations of photography - to get a well-exposed, blur-free photo requires ample illumination of the subject. Events often take place under much less than optimum lighting conditions, which will force the photographer to make a compromised balance between using a high ISO setting (which usually results in more “noise” in the photo) or using a longer exposure time (which could result in blur if the subject is moving), or using a larger aperture on the camera’s lens (which could result in a much shallower depth of focus). The reality is, expect the photos to look “rough” if the lighting isn’t adequate.

What we do...

Some combination of panorama, wide-angle, large and/or small group, individual, and close-up photos of your band performance, stage production, ship christening, parade, car or boat show, banquet, party, wedding reception, grand opening, etc., including shots taken front and back stage, of the audience, general area/location “establishing” shots, etc.

Please be sure to read what we don’t do.

What you get...

The number and type of photos taken per hour at your event will vary depending on the type of event. For example...

  • At a stage production for a church, we took 284 photos in three hours. The photos were mostly from a single location with our camera on a tripod due to the dim stage lighting. Other photos included outside signs, pre-show stage area, back stage areas, lighting and sound crews and stations, and the orchestra.

  • At a concert in the MS Coast Coliseum, we took 905 photos in about 13 hours over two days. The photos included shots of the lighting and sound system and video equipment in-loading, rigging, and adjusting; various shots outside to establish the location and event, backstage shots of cast and crew, the rehearsals, the show (including full cast, small groups, individual shots, and crew members), various audience shots, and the post-show activities.

  • At three other shows, we took 324 photos in 3.5 hours, 291 photos in 4 hours, and 192 photos in two hours.

The photos are burned on your choice of a CD-R or DVD+/-R (please specify). Sorry, the files on a ZIP disk is not available.

Note that editing the photos is not included
as a part of the photography.
