Although we use care to get the photo “right” at the time we take it (composition, lighting, focus, exposure), almost every photo benefits from some post processing - cropping, resizing, hue, saturation, luminance, contrast, black and/or white points, sharpening, correcting perspective distortion, etc. - to make it as good as it can be.
Virtually every photo that goes on a web page will need at least resizing, probably some cropping, and some degree of file compression. This is necessary to help keep the file size small enough so as to not cause the web page to take too long to download, and to quickly focus the web site viewer’s attention on the most important part of the photo.
